Biography


Alicia Roanne Witt, the renowned American film, stage and television actress was born on August 21, 1975 in Worcester Massachusetts. She is also a well known pianist. At her early childhood, every one was impressed by her profound intelligence. She started reading the works of the English Dramatist William Shakespeare when she was two years old. By reaching the age of four, she was giving performances on ABC channel in programs, based on Shakespeare’s dramas.

After observing Alicia’s extraordinary intelligence her parents decided to teach her at home. Hence, she was home schooled, by reaching the age of seven, she started playing piano on Beethoven and Bartok’s symphonies. She got her high school certificate when she was fourteen years old. After receiving high school certificate she along with mother migrated to Los Angeles to pursue career in acting. She made first appearance on big screen in David Lynch’s science fiction movie ‘Dune’ in 1984. While pursuing acting career, meanwhile, she started playing piano at Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angels as a means to sustenance.

Her acquaintance with David Lynch helped her to get roles in Television series- Twin Peaks. In 1993, she acted in movies Bodies, Rest & Motion and in the HBO trilogy Hotel Room directed by David Lynch. In 1994, she received Special Jury Recognition Award at Sundance Film Festival for movie ‘Fun’ in which she played character of ‘Bonnie’, the one of the two disturbed young girls whom desire for fun leads them to a murder. The film was directed by Rafal Zielinski. Her other memorable roles are in Opus (1995), Four Rooms (1995)

She exhibited her talent as a pianist in romantic comedy Playing Mona Lisa (2000). For her role in the movie, she won the Best Actress Award at the US Comedy Arts Festival. Her most recent movies are The Upside of Anger (2005) and Television movie Ring of the Nibelungs.
